Genevieve R Shryock

Genevieve R. (Dhom) Shryock, age 89

Of Newton, IL passed away at 11:10 AM –Wednesday, February 13, 2013 at St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital in Effingham, IL. Funeral services celebrating Genevieve’s life will be held at 12:00 Noon – Saturday, February 16, 2013 at the Blake-Buchanan Funeral Home in Newton, IL with Mike Shryock officiating. Burial will be in the Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Newton, IL. Visitation will be from 10:00 AM until service time at the funeral home. In loving memory of Genevieve memorials may be made to the Jasper County Cancer Support Fund.

Genevieve was born on June 2, 1923 in Willow Hill, IL the daughter of Harold and Ruth (Miller) Dhom. She married Raymond L. Shryock on June 19, 1943 at Camp Croft, South Carolina and he preceded her in death on March 6, 1985. Genevieve was a homemaker and a loving mother and grandmother. She was a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Newton. She was a volunteer for G.R.O.W. and had served as a Cub Scout leader of Pack #10. Genevieve enjoyed sewing, crocheting, quilting and tending her yard and landscaping. Genevieve is survived by: 6 Children – Terry (Mary) Shryock of Springfield, IL Dianna (J.D.) Stroud of West Salem, IL Steve (Diana) Shryock of Hidalgo, IL Carol (David) Kocher of Claremont, IL Nancy (Jack) Brown of Newton, IL Randy (Glenna) Shryock of Newton, IL Brother – Bob Dhom of Newton, IL Sisters – Betty (Ted) Ramelli of Vinton, CA Judy (Larry) Huitt of Petersburg, IL 15 Grandchildren 12 Great Grandchildren 1 Great Great Grandchild

Genevieve was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brothers Herndon “Duke” Dhom, Dean Dhom and infant brother Richard Dhom and a sister Mary June Ochs.
